I attended the UCI Student Health Center and their dental facility all three years of my time at UCI, through UCSHIP. My freshman year, I ran into an issue with insurance billing as I wasn't aware we needed a referral from UCSHIP directly to see a specialist (I went to EXER at UTC and was referred from there). That experience was probably the most troubling I had, as I did have to pay out of pocket despite filing for a retroactive referral. That being said, I feel the issue came from a lack of knowledge about how UCSHIP insurance functioned on my end, and a lack of clarification through the insurance themselves. I used referrals from SHC themselves for specialists later on with no major issues aside from making sure the insurance did their part... but everyone I spoke to through the insurance company was very helpful, it just takes forever for things to process, and you want to stay on top of it to make sure there are no issues. With regards to the Student Health Center themselves, I had a relatively positive experience each time I came in. My one negative experience was with one of the nurses (I don't remember her name unfortunately) who was insensitive about the reason for my vi

If you have the option of what psychiatrist to choose, absolutely do not choose Dr. Choy!!! She is unkind, unprofessional and downright rude. In my intake when she was asking me symptoms of different conditions and I was responding with what I thought or symptoms of that condition, she was literally snickering and telling me how I was wrong about that being a symptom of that condition. (For context, I was coming to her as a patient and not as a fellow mental health professional, so why I would be expected to know those things and why it was funny that I didn't know them, I'm not sure). This woman has tried to force multiple diagnoses on me that I told her felt unwarranted (and my THERAPIST that I saw WEEKLY also thought was unnecessary). And she is also literally holding my medication hostage, forcing me to go off my antidepressants for the first time in FOUR YEARS (for context, I've been on this medication for 4+ years, been seeing her for 2+ years, and haven't adjusted the dose in a 1.5+ years). If you're looking for someone kind, caring, empathetic and helpful please look elsewhere!! (I was told we could pick someone online and then schedule an appointment with them) Don't do li

One may think that since it's a schools health center that it won't be good. I found myself really appreciating and loving it. The appointments are fast and easy to make. I did some blood work and the results are notified in your portal. The doctor called me to prescribe medication and followed up with me as well. I was in and out within 30 minutes for my appointment with no wait, which I was super appreciative of. I was given free covid testing kits with my prescription and again no wait. The pharmacist was very nice and went over how to take the medication. The only downside is they close early (5PM). If you're a student on campus or even off campus I highly suggest trying it out before you go else where.

Doctors are okay! But their service is not good! While they know that the students will be charged when visiting an urgent care facility outside of the school, they don’t hold spots for quick visits! So if you have a cold or flu and want to see a doctor, you have to call before 9am, otherwise they won’t have time for you! Their website is also not updated! While in the website says you will be charged if you cancel your appointment anytime within 24h of your appointment time, when you call they say you can cancel up to hour before your appointment!
